THE STORY BEHIND BUFFALO PAINTING
Written May 22, 2026 — DJ's Birthday
Painting has always been more than just a business to me. It's been long days, stressful nights, learning lessons the hard way, figuring things out as we went, and building something from absolutely nothing through hard work, belief, consistency, and refusing to quit when things got difficult.
Buffalo Painting represents the next chapter of that journey.
This company was built from years of growth through Joseph Rivers Painting and everything we created throughout Central New York — but this expansion means something deeper to me because of who's leading it. DJ has been with me since day one. Honestly, even before day one. Before the trucks, before the crews, before the reviews, before the growth, before the systems, and before any of this became real — there was simply belief. Belief that we could build something bigger for ourselves and the people around us if we just kept showing up and pushing forward no matter how difficult things got.
There were a lot of years where things weren't easy. Long days. Uncertainty. Pressure. Jobs that tested us mentally and physically. Times where I was dragging DJ to work before the sun came up because I had this vision in my head of what this company could eventually become. And there were just as many times where he stayed loyal, trusted me, believed in the vision, and kept showing up no matter what things looked like at the time. That loyalty means everything to me. Because the truth is — businesses don't get built alone. They're built during the difficult years before success ever shows up. They're built by the people willing to stay beside you while everyone else is still trying to figure out whether the vision is real or not. And DJ isn't the only one. He was simply the first of many people who believed in me, believed in the company, and helped carry this thing forward through every stage of growth.
As Joseph Rivers Painting continued growing throughout Central New York, I always knew the vision would eventually become much bigger than one area. Buffalo and Western New York immediately stood out to me — beautiful homes, historic architecture, hardworking people, growing communities, and an area where professionalism and craftsmanship still matter. That's why Buffalo Painting was created. Our goal is simple: bring the same professionalism, communication, craftsmanship, preparation, and customer experience that helped us grow throughout Central New York into Buffalo and the surrounding Western New York communities. We specialize in interior painting, exterior painting, cabinet painting and refinishing, wallpaper removal, drywall and sheetrock repair, trim and detailed finish work, historic home repainting, and residential and commercial painting services throughout Buffalo and Western New York. Whether we're repainting a historic home in Buffalo, refinishing kitchen cabinets in Hamburg, updating interiors in Lancaster, restoring trim in Orchard Park, or transforming exteriors throughout Western New York, our mission stays the same — deliver high-quality work while creating an experience homeowners actually feel good about.
To me, painting has never been just about applying paint. It's about trust. Communication. Showing up on time. Respecting someone's home. Doing the small things right. Taking pride in preparation. Protecting floors and furniture. Fixing imperfections correctly. Sanding properly. Using quality materials. Leaving projects cleaner than we found them. Caring about the final result as much as the customer does. That culture is what built Joseph Rivers Painting throughout Central New York in places like Skaneateles, Fayetteville, Manlius, Cazenovia, Ithaca, Cortland, Homer, Auburn, Syracuse, Norwich, Binghamton, and the surrounding communities. And now we're bringing that same mindset into Buffalo, Lancaster, Hamburg, Orchard Park, Amherst, Clarence, Williamsville, East Aurora, Tonawanda, West Seneca, Cheektowaga, Depew, Grand Island, and all throughout Western New York. This expansion isn't just about business growth to me. It's about building something meaningful with the people who helped make this journey possible from the very beginning. And before I end this, I want to thank the people who helped build this company into what it is today. Thank you to Bill, John, Mat, DJ, Dad, Anthony, Caden, and Kay. Every one of you helped carry this company through different seasons of growth. Some of you helped steady things during chaos. Some of you stepped up when pressure was high. Some of you took on leadership roles before you even realized you were ready for them. Some of you simply kept showing up every single day and refusing to let the standard drop. And this isn't the end of the road either — it's only the beginning. Buffalo is just one more step in a much bigger vision. So stick this thing out with me and let's see just how far this ride can really go together.
People see the finished projects, the trucks, the growth, the reviews, and the social media posts — but they don't always see the sacrifice behind it. The long summers. The freezing winters. The exhaustion. The stress. The early mornings. The late nights. The responsibility. The pressure of trying to build something bigger than yourself while making sure everyone around you continues moving forward too. I'll never forget the people who helped carry that weight with me. And of course — my wife Courtney. Truly none of this is possible without you. Thank you for supporting me through every stage of this journey. Thank you for holding things together at home while I poured myself into building this company. Thank you for understanding my love for what I do and never standing in the way of the vision I had for our future together. …maybe a couple questions here and there. 😂 But seriously — I love you more than anything, and none of this exists without your support, patience, belief, and sacrifice behind the scenes. So while Buffalo Painting may look like the next expansion from the outside, to me it represents something much deeper. It represents years of sacrifice, loyalty, belief, friendship, leadership, growth, family, and people coming together to build something meaningful from the ground up. And finally — Thank you, DJ. Thank you for believing in me before most people did. Thank you for staying loyal through every stage of this journey. Thank you for continuing to push forward with me while we built all of this from the ground up. Now go run it perfect and paint it perfect. Love ya, brother.
